The aim of 5 Star Childcare is “To enrich and maximise each individual child’s development and potential as they make their foundation steps of life, by providing a fun, loving, safe and stimulating environment for them to play, have fun, grow and flourish.”
Challenging Environments, Play & EYFS
The Early Years Foundation Stage is a high quality framework used within all day-care settings to support children’s learning and development from birth to the end of their first year in Reception Class. “Play is a child’s work” Jean Piaget (Clinical Psychologist and pioneer in child development).
It is based upon 4 themes and principles and recognises children to be unique and competent learners who learn through high quality play and experiences.

Learning & Development
of Learning and Development are equally important and interconnected.
An environment that allows children to thrive & grow
At 5 Star Childcare we believe that careful planning is essential to providing opportunities for children to make choices and experience high quality learning.
We continually observe and assess the children in our care ensuring that all activities provided are planned for in response to children’s needs and interests as often as possible.
We also recognise that many children prefer to experience play and learning outdoors, thus use indoor and outdoor spaces for learning in equal measure.
The environment we have created for the children encourages them to thrive and grow through using a diverse range of toys and learning equipment with adult support.
Our Primary School Teacher also works with our children to challenge and continuously further their development.
Every Child Matters (ECM)
The Early Years Foundation Stage
The EYFS is a central part of the ten-year childcare strategy. Ensuring a consistent approach to care and learning from birth to the end of the Foundation Stage, has a play-based approach and focuses on stages of development rather than chronological, age-based teaching.

MAKING A POSITIVE
At 5 Star Childcare we understand the importance of finding a nursery that you can trust and that recognises your child’s care and wellbeing as being paramount.
We provide a clean and well-maintained environment for children to flourish in and have excellent health and safety procedures in place to ensure your child is in the best hands. We hold regular Staff and Management meetings to review, assess and implement any necessary changes in order to make continuous improvement in all areas.
Our management structure is extremely robust with Managing Director, Mandy Naylor, taking an active role in the day to day running and strategic development of the nursery. Mandy is provided with exceptional support from the Director of Operations, Rahana Khanum, and the rest of the team whose key aim is to provide the highest standard of care for all children in a wonderful, warm and welcoming environment.
Parent/Carers as Partners
Key Worker Approach
We understand that you want only the very best for your child. We believe that when we work closely with parents/carers the results of this can have a great impact on a child’s learning and development, as information can be shared by both parties.
Your child’s Key Worker will communicate with you daily about your child’s day, providing you with a daily report sheet for you to take home if you wish. We always aim to keep parents fully informed and involved with everything happening at nursery and in keeping in touch, we not only learn more about each child, we are also able to ensure that the services we offer meet the needs and priorities of both parents and children alike.
During your child’s time with us we will also document their development in a 5 Star Childcare Learning Journal. This is unique to your child, providing you with valuable information about the time your child spends at nursery and what they get up to.
We recognise that parents and carers are also primary educators for many children and our learning journals allow you to share with us information about the different milestones your child reaches outside of the nursery environment. Not only does this enable staff to develop a clear picture of the ongoing achievements of your child beyond nursery, it also enables them to plan activities and tailor them to the needs and interests of your child.
Furthermore, the Learning Journal is a clear record of your child’s progress and is yours to keep when your child leaves our care. This can often be a valuable document to share with another care provider or your child’s Reception class teacher if your child moves on to school.
Keep Up To Date
Information about the nursery and special events is distributed on a monthly basis via our regular nursery newsletters. Located within the entrance hall to the nursery you will also find a Parents’ Notice Board with up-to-date information about our setting.
We always encourage parental involvement within the nursery and welcome suggestions and feedback that may help us to improve our services. Thus, we provide parents and carers with the opportunity to note down their thoughts about our nursery in the comments and suggestion book located in the reception area.
We review and respond to these on a regular basis, ensuring any constructive feedback is reviewed and acted upon in a timely manner. Additionally, we also offer parents access to workshops tailored to help you provide extended learning to your child at home.
All these actions combined help us to show parents and carers that at 5 Star Childcare we take nothing for granted and are absolutely committed to evaluating and improving the standards of learning and care we provide.
